This website will be a growing platform for the various research projects and activities that are associated with research projects that relate to situated ecologies, in particular those related to the process of urbanization.
The two research projects driving the platform are called —‘Ways of Knowing Urban Ecologies’ (WOK-UE) and ‘Socioecological Movements in Urban Ecosystems’ (MOVE). These have created several activities that can be followed here. The activities include case studies in Cape Town, New Orleans and Stockholm into food security, civic-led wetland/fynbos rehabilitation, co-management of nature reserve at the urban fringe, environmental history in New Orleans, an edited and international book project called ‘Contested Urban Natures’, the ‘Cape Town Civic Network Study’ (CT-CIVNET), and theoretical interventions into the field of Urban Political Ecology. All these and some more will receive their subheadings.
